Optimising the use of mediation
That mediation (finally) took a well-deserved bow on the international stage in June, 2011 when the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted a resolution entitled “Strengthening the role of mediation in peaceful settlement of disputes, conflict prevention and resolution”. This resolution invited member states to optimize the use of mediation and the other tools outlined in Chapter VI of the United Nations Charter for the peaceful settlement of disputes, as well as conflict prevention and resolution. It also encouraged member states, where appropriate, to develop their national mediation capacity ensuring that women were given equal, full and effective participation in that development.
